About Us

The Whanganui College Board of Trustees is the proprietor of St George’s School and Whanganui Collegiate School, providing governance and long-term stewardship for two independent schools that share a single campus and a common Anglican Special Character.

For more than 170 years, the Board has safeguarded the vision, values, and traditions that make this educational community distinctive. As proprietor, it is responsible for ensuring that the schools remain faithful to their Special Character while providing strategic leadership, responsible management of property and resources, and sustainable governance for the future.

Together, St George’s School and Whanganui Collegiate School offer a seamless Year 1–13 educational journey. St George’s School provides a nurturing primary and intermediate environment where students develop confidence, curiosity, and strong academic foundations. Whanganui Collegiate School builds on this foundation, preparing young people for life through academic excellence, leadership opportunities, service, and a rich co-curricular programme.

The Board works in partnership with school leadership to provide oversight of governance, strategic planning, financial sustainability, and campus development. Every decision is guided by a commitment to preserving the schools’ Special Character while ensuring they continue to meet the needs of current and future generations.

Our stewardship is underpinned by the values of service, integrity, respect, courage, and excellence. These principles shape our governance and reflect our commitment to creating an environment where every student is known, supported, challenged, and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Today, the Whanganui College Board of Trustees continues to honour its heritage while embracing innovation, ensuring that St George’s School and Whanganui Collegiate School remain leading independent schools offering a distinctive Year 1–13 education on one campus for families from Whanganui, throughout New Zealand, and around the world.
